The European cybersecurity landscape continues to evolve as the EU-funded QARC project has officially joined the SPQR (Secure Post-Quantum eRa) cluster, reinforcing collective efforts to advance Europe’s transition to post-quantum cryptography (PQC).
The SPQR cluster brings together leading Horizon Europe projects to foster knowledge exchange, collaboration, and the development of practical solutions needed for a secure transition to quantum-resistant cybersecurity. Its mission is to accelerate innovation, bridge technological gaps, and support a coordinated approach to PQC adoption across Europe.
Alongside QARC, the SPQR cluster includes several prominent initiatives such as PQ-REACT (Post-Quantum Cryptography Framework for Energy-Aware Contexts), as well as other EU-funded projects – working on advancing quantum-resilient cryptographic solutions and infrastructures. Together, these projects form a strong collaborative ecosystem aimed at addressing the technical and operational challenges of PQC adoption.
The QARC project significantly strengthens this ecosystem. Its core objective is to accelerate the migration to post-quantum cryptography by developing secure and practical solutions for real-world systems—from embedded devices to cloud infrastructures. The project places particular emphasis on hybrid cryptographic schemes, crypto-agility, and protection against side-channel attacks.
In addition, QARC collaborates closely with national cybersecurity authorities and implements pilot use cases in e-government, open-source platforms, and other critical infrastructures to validate and refine PQC deployment strategies at the European level.
By joining the SPQR cluster, QARC will expand its collaboration with other leading research and innovation initiatives while contributing to a stronger, more coordinated European capacity to address the cybersecurity challenges of the quantum era.
This milestone marks another important step toward building a secure and quantum-resilient digital infrastructure in Europe.
EU Transition to Post-Quantum Cryptography: Groundbreaking European Projects Join Forces to Secure the Quantum Era
The SPQR cluster was established through collaboration between the QUBIP and PQ-REACT EU projects, with the shared goal of strengthening the European Union’s preparedness for the post-quantum cryptography era. It now brings together a growing number of European projects, including PQ-NEXT, Q-FENCE and POSEIDON. In an era marked by rapid technological advancements and evolving security threats, our joint effort is promising to smooth the transition and enhance the European Union’s cybersecurity. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies and visionary strategies, our collaboration is poised to redefine cybersecurity and ensure a smooth and secure transition into the quantum era.
