On 11 June 2026, the expert event “Beyond the Algorithm: The Road to Quantum-Safe Europe” took place in Bucharest as part of the final meeting of the Secure Post Quantum eRa (SPQR Cluster) initiative. The QARC project was represented there by NÚKIB.
QARC project partners participated in the event and presented the project’s development and its contribution to strengthening Europe’s digital infrastructure in preparation for the transition to post-quantum cryptography. As a consortium member, NÚKIB delivered a presentation on the QARC project, highlighting its role in building a secure and resilient European infrastructure for the quantum era. The presentation also placed particular emphasis on the legal and policy aspects of the transition to post-quantum encryption within the European Union.
The event overall addressed current trends in post-quantum cryptography and the preparation of Europe’s digital infrastructure for the advent of quantum technologies. Participants presented the strategic objectives and long-term vision of the SPQR Cluster, as well as research projects funded under the Horizon Europe programme.
The need for a coordinated approach at both the technological and regulatory levels was emphasized, along with the importance of timely preparation for the security challenges posed by the development of quantum technologies. All eight SPQR Cluster projects were also presented — PQ-REACT, QUBIP, PQ-NEXT, Q-FENCE, FOCAL, FORTRESS, POSEIDON, and QARC — which together contribute to a secure and coordinated transition of Europe into the post-quantum era.
